David Harris is defensive rookie of the month of November. Since Harris replaced Jonathan Vilma in week 7 of this season, Harris has gotten the job done. Every week David gets better with leadership. In 5 weeks, he has 66 tackles. The expectations of Vilma coming back next year will be doubtful.

In reading today’s paper, I was very impressed with David Harris’s comments. David talked about the ok job on the field last Sunday against Buffalo. David had 13 tackles and 3 sacks. Harris who hails from Michigan took over for Jonathan Vilma. Vilma will be sidelined for the rest of this season with a knee injury. The only problem I have is that nobody knows what type of injury he has to the knee. Harris only thinks his ability will get better on the field. David Harris is becoming a team leader on field.

After reading Wednesdays article about Jonathan Vilma being taken out in Sunday’s game. I had to some investigation to what happened. Eric Mangini takes Jonathan out in the second half with a leg injury. The fans and media did not know about any injury. Mangini decided to pull Vilma out of the game, because Jonathan was not doing his job the way Mangini wanted. However, for Eric Mangini to say that Vilma was out because of injury was misleading to all that matters. In the Jets injury, report prior to the game Jonathan Vilma was not on that list. Newsday

This week, the Jets practice was not their usual type. Eric Mangini was convinced that being physical will be his way of winning games. Today the Jets go against Philadelphia and Donovan McNabb. If the Jets can get to McNabb, they have a chance of staying close. Jonathan Vilma and company must put pressure on McNabb. Gang Green has only three sacks in 5 games this year. When the Eagles played the Giants 2 weeks ago Mr. Mc Nabb was injured and without Westbrook and Thomas who help block for Donovan. Today is when the Jets take the field in their old jerseys hoping to win. Chad Pennington must be mobile and not wait to decide whom to throw too. Thomas Jones must pound the ball this afternoon. Jets special teams cannot carry this team. In short, Gang Green must play like champions this afternoon in order to win.

The versatility of Jonathan Vilma is incredible. Jonathan in the off-season worked hard to get his body in shape for this coming year. Vilma has 1093 defensive snaps last season, which ended last week in Buffalo. Jonathan wants to play in every snap count on special teams and defense. Eric Mangini calls Vilma Mr. reliable. Newsday

The Jets are looking for a big game tomorrow from its defense. According to Newsday’s article, D’Brickashaw Ferguson has not played well in his first two games this year. Eric Mangini has said that Ferguson played well last week against Baltimore. However, the Jets organization felt that Ferguson being the number one draft in 2006 would make a big impact on defense. This week D’Brickashaw goes against Miami’s Jason Taylor who happens to be player of the year in 2006. D’Brickashaw will need a lot of help from Jonathon Vilma, and Shaun Ellis to contain Mr. Taylor and Mr. Thomas. As of today, Mangini has not said who will start against Miami. Chad Pennington did not take part in a full practice yesterday. Will we see Kellen or Chad on Sunday?

Defense seems to be the topic of this week. Certainly, you cannot avoid it. The mighty Jets are the only team that has not forced any fumbles, no sacks, and no interceptions in their first two games this year. According to Jonathan Vilma, there was a spark in their second half of play on Sunday. If you look back at 2006 during the Cleveland game the Jets shut them down, after that, Gang Green held all opponents to an avg. of 12.75 yards a game. Gang Green needs to wake up to a reality check, an start making turnovers.(Newsday)
