Thomas Jones carries 24 times for 75 yards and his first touchdown this season. Kellen Clemens went 15 for 24 with 234 yards and a touchdown. The Jets defense also had a good day on the field with Darrelle Revis making tackles and an interception. Kerry Rhodes made some big tackles and interception to stop Miami. On special teams, it was all Nugent with 4 field goals. Lets all pray for the Jets to get healthy an continue from this week. All in all Gang Green played well not super. Newsday

Gang Green gets first win over Fish

September 23, 2007 By: Craig Category: Chad Pennington, Chris Baker, Jerricho Cotchery, Jonathan Vilma, Laveranues Coles, Leon Washington, Mike Nugent, NFL, New York Jets, Shaun Ellis

In the 1st quarter, Jonathan Vilma and Shaun Ellis blitzed Trent Green for the first sack of their season. Pennington on his own 45-yard line takes a helmet-to-helmet shot from Channing Crouden for a personal foul. That put the Jets on Miami’s 11-yard line. Thomas Jones has three carries and puts the ball on the 1-yard line. Chad Pennington threw to Laveranues Coles in the left corner for a Touchdown. Next series, Trent Green throws a screen pass to Ronnie Brown for 42-yard play. Ronnie Brown takes it in for 1 of his 3 touchdowns. Score 7-7, Jay Feely’s kickoff to Leon Washington takes off for a 98 yard touchdown return making the score 14-7. With 2 minutes left in the 1st half Miami on Jets 21 yard line, kick a field goal by Feely. The Jets with 1:18 left in the half, Pennington finds Jerricho Cotchery for a 43-yard pass. Ball on the 4 yard line, Chad throws it to TE Chris Baker for a touchdown making the score 21-13. Gang Green on the opening drive of the 3rd quarter Chad takes his team downfield for a Mike Nugent field goal making the score 24-13. Entering the 4th quarter Thomas Jones takes the jets down to Miami’s 2 yard line were Pennington runs in for a touchdown making the score 31-13. Miami’s next possession march down with a 76-yard pass play, which ends with a 2-yard touchdown by Ronnie Brown. Miami makes 2 point conversion making the score 31-28. Jets get the offside kick and hold on to win.

September 08, 2007 By: Craig Category: Mike Nugent, NFL, New York Jets

Mike Nugent had an excellent year in 2006.  Mike made 24 of 27 Field Goal attempts, is working on strengthening his leg.  In the off-season, Mike was working on adding weight to his body.  Special Teams Coach Mike Westhoff has been working with Nugent. Their goal is to put more kickoffs in the end zone. (Newsday)

Jets win in last minute field goal by Nugent

August 30, 2007 By: Craig Category: Anthony Schlegel, Brad Smith, C.J. Mosley, Chansi Stuckey, Die Hard Jets Fan, Marques Tuiasosopo, Mike Nugent, NFL, New York Jets

The Jets’ comeback win against the Eagles showed the determination of the players who are trying to make the roster. CJ Mosley had some excellent defensive plays in the first half. CJ Mosley also forced a fumble witch turned into a field goal. Anthony Schlegel played well on defense and special teams. Brad Smith and Marques Tuiasosopo both had good games, but Marques Tuiasosopo was very stable on the last drive with 2:50 left in the game. He took control as he was able move the ball down field with a couple of passes to Chansi Stuckey and his running back. Tuiasosopo got the ball to the 19 yard line with 3 second left. Mike Nugent came in and kicked a 35 yard field goal to win 13-11.

Jets Take Game 20-12 in Last Night’s Game Against Giants

August 26, 2007 By: Craig Category: Brad Smith, Chad Pennington, Danny Ware, Darrelle Revis, Die Hard Jets Fan, Eric Mangini, Justin McCareins, Kellen Clemens, Leon Washington, Mike Nugent, NFL, New York Jets

The Jets look like the same old Jets last night against the Giants. On opening kick-off  Brad Smith takes the kick-off and returns to the 21 yard line. First play from scrimmage, Chad Pennington hits Leon Washington for a 79 yard touchdown pass.  Mike Nugent has extra point blocked. Eric Mangini’s  Jet defense let the Giants offense drive down field 3 consecutive times , but only 3 points thanks to Tynes’ 2 missed field goal attempts in the 1st half.  After the opening drive, Chad Pennington was stopped  on the next 3 positions. As his offensive line could not stop the penetration from Big Blue’s defense sacking Chad Pennington. In the second half the Jets came out and thier defense showed up to play.  Darelle Revis had a couple of good tackles for the Jets. The second half belongs to Kellen Clemens and Danny Ware. Kellen Clemens, having a career night throwing for 47 yard touchdown to Justin McCareins.  In the 4 quarter, Kellen ran 1 yard for a touchdown. Clemens went 6 for 8 with 122 yards of passing. Danny Warehad impressive night running the ball.   Danny had 44 yards on the night. Over all the Jets played better in the second half og the game, Eric Mangini has some work ahead of him by Sept.9th when Gang Green plays the New England Patriots.

Preseason Game 2: Minnesota Vikings vs. New York Jets

August 17, 2007 By: Keith Category: Jason Pociask, Marques Tuiasosopo, Mike Nugent, NFL, New York Jets

Tonight, the New York Jets will be hosting the Minnesota Vikings at 8:00 p.m. on FOX.  Minnesota struggled big time last year, and the Jets looked great last week.  Now let’s get started before the rain comes down harder.

J-E-T-S, Jets Jets Jets

 1st Quarter:

So Washington returns the opening kickoff for the Jets.  Pennington comes on the field for the first offensive series.  From shotgun, he hits Baker for a gain of 5-yards.  On 2nd and 5, from shotgun, Pennington threw a screen to Washington for a loss of 4-yards.  On 3rd and 9, the Jets draw the Vikings offsides.  On 3rd and 4, Pennington from shotgun scrambled and picked up 16-yards and the Die Hard Jets Fan are going wild.  On 1st and 10 from the 33 yard line, Pennington hands it off to Washington who picked up 3-yards.  On 2nd and 7, Chad Pennington threw an interception to Darren Sharper who ran it back for a 42-yard return for a touchdown.  The Vikings are up 7-0.  You definitely don’t want your starter doing that in a Preseason game.  The rookies are supposed to be doing that.  They seemed to be gaining momentum too.

Smith returns the Kickoff from the Vikings for a decent gain.  The Jets will begin at their own 32 yard line.  Pennington passes to Coles for a gain of 11-yards.  On 1st and 10, Pennington hands it off to Washington for no gain.  On 2nd and 10, Pennington from shotgun passes to McCareins 6-yards.  On 3rd and 4, Pennington passes to Coles who picks up 12-yards.  The Jets just passed the 50 yard line and they’re looking good.  So from the Vikings 39 yard line, Pennington hands it off to Stuckey picked up 5-yards.  On 2nd and 5, Pennington from shotgun hands it off to Washington who picked up 13-yards.  The running game is looking good now.  The Jets are in a no huddle offense.  The Jets caught the Vikings with 12 men on the field by rushing to get the play off.  The penalty gives the Jets 1st and 5, at the 11 yard line.  Pennington passes to Cotchery for a 1st Down.  The Refs called Delay of Game on the Jets, which backed them up 5-yards.  So Pennington, from the 6 yard line, hands it off to Washington and he got the 5 yards right back.  On 2nd and Goal, Pennington passes to Cotchery and he got shoved out of bounds at the 2 yard line.  On 3rd and Goal, Pennington overthrows Smith in the End Zone.  Mike Nugent made the 19-yard Field Goal.  As a bigger Giants fan then Jets fan, that was shades of Big Blue by not getting the TD.  So the Vikings are up 7-3.

Allison returns the Kickoff for the Vikings and gets to the 24 yard line.  So the Vikings offense comes on the field…FINALLY.  Jackson was getting knocked down by Barton, and Jackson threw it out of bounds.  On 2nd and 10, Jackson throws it to Wade for 4-yards.  On 3rd and 6, Jackson passes to Wade but he dropped it.  So the Jets stopped the Vikings on their first possession.  Washington called for a fair catch.

From the 26 yard line, Pennington hands it off to Washington for a gain of 4-yards.  On 2nd and 6, Pennington is getting rushed and he passed to Smith for 2-yards, but the Jets have to back up 10-yards for a Holding Penalty.  On 2nd and 16, the Jets call Time Out…..Game On…..On 2nd and 16, with 3:39 left in the 1st Quarter, Chad Pennington threw another interception to Chad Greenway who ran it back for a TD.  The Vikings pressured Pennington or that wouldn’t have happened.  He’s got to prevent that.  So the Vikings are up 14-3.

Wright returns the Kickoff for 38-yards along the right side line.  That was sweet.  From the 49 yard line, Pennington hands it off to Washington for a 6-yard gain.  On 2nd and 4, Pennington hands it off to Washington for a gain of 6-yards.  On 1st and 10, Pennington hands it off to Washington for another great run picking up 15-yards.  From the Vikings 25 yard line, Pennington hands it off to Washington for no gain, but there’s a Holding Penalty against the Vikings which gives the Jets a 1st Down.  Pennington hands it off to Ware for a yard for two consecutive plays, and the 1st Quarter come to an end.

2nd Quarter:

On 3rd and 8, Pennington hands it off to Washington for 2-yards.  Mike Nugent makes the 34-yard Field Goal so the Vikings are up 14-6.

Allison got JACKED UP by two Jets, and the Vikings get the ball at the 23 yard line.  Jackson hands it off to Peterson who goes all the way down the sideline and picks up 43-yards.  1st and 10, from the Jets 34 yard line, Jackson hands it off to Taylor and he picks up 12-yards.  Jackson hands it off to Peterson and picks up 5-yards.  On 2nd and 5, Jackson hands it off to Taylor and picks up 3-yards.  On 3rd and 3, Jackson passes to Rice for a few yards.

Unfortunately my DVR had a hiccup so were going to move straight to the 3rd Quarter.  My apologies Die Hard Jets Fans.

3rd Quarter:

With 13:31 remaining in the 3rd Quarter, the Vikings have the ball at their own 32 yard line.  Moore picks up a 1st Down.  Moore picks up 2-yards.  On 2nd and 8, Owens makes a catch for 6-yards.  Henson is the Quarterback now.  On 3rd and 2, the Vikings run the ball and come up short.  On 4th and Inches, Henson hands it off to Dugan picks up the 1st Down.  The score is now Vikings 24 - Jets 13…which is no good.  How did that happen?  Henson attempts to go deep but it was almost picked off.  On 2nd and 10, the Vikings run it for a few yards.  On 3rd and 4, Henson from shotgun calls Time Out…From shotgun Henson passes to Nance for a 1st Down.  At the Jets 39 yard line, Henson hands it off to Moore and there is a False Start Penalty against the Vikings.  On 1st and 15, Henson passes to his Receiver and it ricochets off of a Jets’ players helmet.  On 2nd and 15, Henson threw it very short of the intended Receiver by the sideline.  On 3rd and 15, Henson from shotgun throws overthrows Nance at the 3 yard line.  The Vikings will punt.

The Jets have possession at the 9 yard line.  Clemens is the Quarterback for the Jets.  Clemens passes incomplete to Ryan.  On 2nd and 10, Clemens passes to McCareins for 10-yards.  Clemens passes to Ryan for 8-yards.  On 2nd and 2, Clemens hands it off to Ware and picks up 3-yards for a 1st Down.  Clemens got the ball knocked out, and the Jets recover it.  On 2nd and 15, the Center snapped the ball of Clemens’ head and Brian Robison picked it up at the 2 yard line and ran it into the End Zone for a Touch Down.  The score is 31-13 with 6:18 remaining in the 3rd Quarter.

Stuckey returns it a few yards.  Clemens completes the pass to Jackson.  On 2nd and 7, Clemens hands it off for a 6-yard gain.  On 3rd and 3, Clemens from shotgun passes to the Receiver and bounced out of his hands and Edwards makes the interception with little return.

The Vikings have the ball at the Jets 40 yard line, and Hensen passes to Moore for a 13-yard pickup.  Hensen, hands it off for a little gain.  On 2nd and 6, Hensen hands it off for a 1st Down.  1st and Goal, Hensen hands it off for about a yard.  Hensen hands it off to Moore for no gain.  3rd and Goal, Hensen throws to the End Zone and it’s incomplete.  Ryan Longwell connects on a 23-yard Field Goal.  So the Vikings are up 34-13 with 2:07 in the 3rd Quarter and the Jets look awful.

Stuckey returns the Kickoff 25-yards to the 25 yard line.  Smith is the new Jets Quarterback, and Smith hands it off to Ware for a 2-yard gain.  On 2nd and 8, Smith passes to Pociask for 3-yards.  On 3rd and 5, Smith scrambles to pick up a 1st Down.  Smith hands it off to Ware for a yard.  This concludes the 3rd Quarter.

4th Quarter:

2nd and 8 at the 40 yard line, Smith passes to Ryan for a 1st Down.  Smith hands it off to Ware for a pick-up of 6.  On 2nd and 4, Smith hands it off to Ware for another 1st Down.  Smith passes downfield and overthrows Stuckey.  On 2nd and 10, Smith hands it off to Ware for 8-yards.  On 3rd and 2, Smith hands it off to Ware another 1st Down.  At the 20 yard line, Smith passes to Stuckey for no gain.  On 2nd and 10, Smith completes to Pociask for a 9-yard gain.  On 3rd and 1, the Jets pick up the 1st Down by pushing the defensive line back.  1st and Goal, Smith passes to Ryan who picks up 5-yards and there is a Holding Penalty against the Vikings which gives the Jets 1st and Goal at the 4-yard line.  Smith hands it off to Ware and he picks up 1-yard.  Smith hands it off to Ware, but the Jets got a Holding Penalty which pushes them back 10-yards.  2nd and Goal, from the 13 yard line, False Start Penalty against the Jets.  2nd and Goal, from the 18 yard line, Smith runs it to the 8 yard line.  On 3rd and Goal, Smith throws incomplete.  On 4th and Goal, the Jets set up for a play, and it’s another bad snap.  Smith picked it up and got sacked at the 29 yard line.

The Vikings take over, and Hensen hands it off to Pinner for a 15-yard pick-up.  Hensen hands it off to Pinner for a 2-yard gain.  On 2nd and 8, the Vikings got called for a penalty and got backed up 5 yards.  On 2nd and 13, Hensen passes incomplete.  On 3rd and 13, scrambles and gets tackled short of the first down marker.

Stuckey returns the Punt for 3-yards, and they will begin at the 22 yard line.  Tuiasosopo is the new Jets Quarterback.  Let me try to write that every time he makes a play.  He passes to Hollings for a 7-yard gain.  On 2nd and 3, Tuiasosopo completes to Ryan for a 1st Down.  At the 39 yard line, with 4:57 left, Tuiasosopo completes it to Ryan again for 7-yards.  On 2nd and 3, the Jets pulled the defense offsides.  This results in a 1st Down.  Tuiasosopo hands it off to Hollings for a 2-yard gain.  There’s a CAT on the field.  What’s that about?  He’s wide open in the End Zone.  On 2nd and 8, Tuiasosopo overthrows the intended receiver.  On 3rd and 8, Tuiasosopo from shotgun scrambles and flips it incomplete.  The Jets are going for it again.  On 4th and 8, Tuiasosopo from shotgun completes it to Hollings for a 1st Down.  With 3:21 remaining in the game, Tuiasosopo passes it to Stuckey for a 1st Down.  Marques Tuiasosopo throws a Touch Down to Jason Pociask as he met the End Zone.

The Jets may attempt an offside kick here with 2:22 left in the 4th Quarter down 34-20…They tried it and Nance picked it up and ran it to the 15 yard line.

This is just going to be a clock killer.  The Vikings run for nothing and they run the clock down to the 2:00 warning.  Fason picks up a 2-yard run.  On 3rd and 8, Hensen hands it off to Fason for a few yards, and the Vikings are bringing on the field goal unit.  Ryan Longwell will attempt the Field Goal and it’s good.  The Vikings are up 37-20.

There’s only 30 second left…Hungry Heart is playing in the background, and Pociask returns it about 10-yards.  Tuiasosopo from shotgun throws it away.  On 2nd and 10, Tuiasosopo from shotgun throw too short to the intended Receiver.  On 3rd and 10, Tuiasosopo from shotgun throws a near pick.  On 4th and 20, with 0:03 left, Tuiasosopo get sacked by three Vikings.  The game started out good even though the Jets went down right away, but it was a snoozer for a long time.  Final Score: Minnesota Vikings 37 - New York Jets 20.  Here’s the official Post Game from NFL.com.

Jets Studs:

There wasn’t really a Jets Stud this week.

Jets Duds:

Jets Quarterbacks and Jets Defense: Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens threw 3 interceptions which gave the Vikings way too many points and great field position when they didn’t make it to the End Zone.

Postseason Game 1: Atlanta Falcons vs. New York Jets

August 10, 2007 By: Keith Category: Chad Pennington, Chansi Stuckey, Danny Ware, Eric Mangini, Frisman Jackson, Kellen Clemens, Leon Washington, Mike Nugent, NFL, New York Jets, Sean Ryan, Thomas Jones

It’s time for Eric Mangini to coach football again after his stab as an actor with his cameo appearance on the Sopranos as ‘Mangenius’ during the offseason.  Chad Pennington gets an opportunity to start a preseason game after playing a complete season last year.  Are you ready for this game Die Hard Jets Fans?

Tonight, the New York Jets will host the Atlanta Falcons at Giants Stadium.  The Jets are fortunate the Michael Vick is not the opposing Quarterback in tonight’s matchup because of his alleged dog fighting operation.  It should make this match-up a little more manageable because it is very easy for the Jets to get burned by Vick’s running capabilities.  Instead, the Falcons put in Joey Harrington as the starting QB.

J-E-T-S, Jets-Jets-Jets!!!

First Half - The Jets stopped the Falcons at about the 50-yard line on the Falcons’ first drive, resulting in a punt.  The touch-back will give the Jets the ball on the 20 yard line for Chad Pennington and the offense.  The Jets only moved the ball a little with mostly running plays on their first drive, they had to punt the ball as well.  On the Falcons second drive, they moved down field on two big plays.  Horn caught a 20-yard reception, and Blakley caught a 37-yard pass which got the Falcons down to the 17 yard line.  The Falcons gained 7-yards on a quick pass and scored a touchdown on the next play as Norwood ran it in from the 11 yard line.  So the Falcons draw first blood leading 7-0.

Leon WashingtonSo the Jets got an opportunity to return a punt, and Leon Washington ran it back 86-yards to the Falcons 7 yard line.  This guy just flew right down the middle of the field.  He’s a stud.  Jones runs it on first down for 3-yards.  Clemens comes in on 2nd and 5, and the Falcons committed pass interference so the Jets get an automatic first down at the 1 yard line.  Clemens hands it off to Thomas Jones, and he scores on a 1-yard run to tie the game up at seven a piece.

The Jets punt, and the Falcons ran it back to the 25 yard line.  Redman takes over the Quarterback role for the Falcons.  A few more Falcons passes, and the Falcons kick a 45-yard field goal, and they take a 10-7 lead.  Washington now runs it back for 27-yards on his next attempt.  McCareins picked up a pass interference call for a big time gain to get the Jets down to the Atlanta 40 yard line.  The Jets have the ball at the 2-minute warning, and Washington just picked up a big first down on a 3rd and 9 play which creates a 1st and goal for the Jets at the 2 yard line.  Kellen Clemens‘ first attempt was a to Sean Ryan, which was originally called incomplete and subsequently called a touchdown.  It looked good to me, but the play is under review.  The play on the field stands so this puts the Jets up 14-10 with 47 seconds remaining.  Jennings, of the Falcons, had a pretty nice run back himself to bring the Falcons to the 37 yard line.  With 1 second left, the Falcons are going to attempt a 49-yard field goal kick.  And it’s…Game off…The Jets took a time out to ice the kicker.  Game on…and it’s good, and it closes the gap in the Jets lead.  We go to halftime with the Jets leading the Falcons 14-13.

Second Half:  On 3rd and 5, from the Falcons 13 yard line, Clemens threw to Chansi Stuckey in the end zone for a touchdown.  This is Clemens’ second TD pass of the game, and it puts the Jets up 21-13.

Jennings on the Falcons ran it back 37 yards, but it got called back because of a holding penalty.  Both teams’ special teams units are picking up big time gains.  The Falcons ended up having to punt it back to the Jets, and the Jets get the ball at their own 44 yard line.  The Jets were able to capitalize on this drive as well as Clemens completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to a wide open Ryan (again).  Now the Jets are up 28-13 with 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd Quarter.

The Jets kickoff and Jennings brings the ball back to the 43 yard line for a 40-yard gain.  On 3rd and 12, the Jets tipped the ball and Drew Coleman intercepted the pass at the 41 yard line and returned it to the Jets 33 yard line.  That was beautiful.  Unfortunately, for the first time in a long time…Atlantas’ defense stopped the Jets…And Nugent is kicking a 52-yard field goal which is…no good.  So the Jets are still up 28-13 with 2:42 left in the 3rd Quarter.

With 14:07 left in the 4th Quarter, the Falcons kicked a 37-yard field-goal to make it a 28-16 match.  The Jets get the ball back, again.  Danny Ware broke out for a very nice 26-yard run which brings the Jets within the 49 yard line.  Clemens, as he’s getting hit, makes a beautiful throw to Frisman Jackson on 3rd and 11.  Jackson reaches up with his right arm and knocks the ball down, and it bounces off of his stomach but was able to bring it in at the 30 yard line.  So far, this was the Jets best play of the game.  So the Jets were stopped again, MikeNugent is attempting a 29-yard field-goal with 8:01 left in the 4th Quarter, and the kick is good.  Now the Jets are up 31-16.

Atlanta had to punt…and New York had to punt with 4:18 left in the 4th Quarter.  Again, Jennings ran it back from the 41 yard line to the 25 yard line, but Atlanta committed two fouls which brought it back plus a 10-yard penalty.  The Falcons move into a hurry-up offense, and they moved down the field a little bit but were stopped by the Jets.  So it’s Jets ball at the Falcons’ 42 yard-line with 2:33 left in the 4th Quarter.   The Jets killed the clock and wrapped this one up and win the game 31-16.  They improve to 1-0 in the Preseason.  Attached is the Recap from NFL.com.

Jets Studs:

Kellen Clemens

Kellen Clemens threw for 174 yards and 3 Touchdowns.  He was very accurate all night once he came in for Chad Pennington who never even attempted to throw a pass.

 Leon Washington

Leon Washington was big time tonight.  He finished the game with 30 rushing yards, 13 receiving yards, 112 return yards.  He was a playmaker and he was responsible for the Jets early success.  He had an 86-yard return in the 1st Quarter, which led to a Jets touchdown.

Sean Ryan

Sean Ryan had 2 TD catches tonight.

Jets Duds:

There weren’t really any poor individual performances, however the pass defense was horrible, as an entire unit, for the first half of the game.  This wasn’t good since the Vick-less Falcons were pass heavy tonight.  In the second half, the Jets defense tightened up and really improved.
